Carbon Monoxide - The Silent Killer

Winter is a very dangerous time for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Carbon monoxide is a gas that comes from burning fossil fuels such as gasoline, kerosene, methane, propane, oil, coal and wood.

It is impossible to detect with the five human senses, but it can cause illness and even death.
It hurts us instead of oxygen in the blood and can result in a sufficient quantity of suffocation. Low doses cause symptoms that feel like the flu. Larger amounts of bloodleads to headaches, nausea, dizziness, collapse, coma and ... finally death.

What are the sources of carbon monoxide? Poisonous carbon monoxide into the house-hold in the air, usually burn from the various areas in which fossil fuels.

* Vehicle emissions
* Home heating (space heaters, gas stove, kerosene heater, wood stove
* Stoves
* Charcoal Grill

Of these three automobile emissions kill the most people per year.

NOTE:Danger of carbon monoxide poising is higher for children 4 years old or less, and for older people 75 years or older.

10 Safety Tips

1. Cars from turning off the engine and remove key from the ignition when the car parked in the garage. If the garage is attached to the house, always warm up the car outside your house, never in the garage.

2. Have your vehicle checked every year for exhaust leaks.

3. Do all your burning fuel, equipment checked every yearwell, to ensure that combustion is clean and there is no risk of CO leaks. Do this before the heating season.

4. Make sure that all heating equipment is located where there is a sufficient supply of fresh air for safe combustion.

5. If you ensure an open fireplace, that the fireplace is open to ensure the chimney is safely vented.

6th kerosene heaters are illegal in many states. Make sure they are legal in your state before buying or using one.

7.Gas-firedGrills deliver dangerous CO fumes. You need not be inside the house or garage, not used with the door.

8. When purchasing new heating or cooking appliances, choose one with the approval by an independent testing laboratory.

Ensure 9.When buying a new home, a qualified auditor that all systems are heating and cooking in safe operating condition, including the garage shall be sufficient, sealed out of the house to prevent automobile fumesinside.

10. When camping, use only battery-powered heating and lighting in tents, caravans and motorhomes. Never use fuel burning appliances inside.

Consider buying a CO detector. Carbon monoxide detectors are electrical devices that will sound an alarm if the CO gas in air reaches a dangerous level health ... be detected before any symptoms.
